Problem with the Mono font

I noticed that the Bitstream Vera Sans Mono font is slightly out of the "mono" order. This is not visible under the GNOME Terminal, which tries to align the letters, but instead in X-Chat. If you have many long lines, you can notice that there is a vertical alignment problem.

I am using the Bitstream Vera font with the Xft2 engine as used by Red Hat Linux 8.0, with freetype 2.1.2 (autohinter, but I think should not be a problem in ter of the alignment). X-Chat version 2.0.0pre1 was used for testing.
