using misc-fixed family fonts in GNOME

Hi all,
I installed gnome-2.4 few weeks ago and I found out
that several old fixed type fonts such as misc-fixed
and lucidatypewriter were all missing from gnome
applications. Is it because they are not TTF? and how
can I use them in gnome applications?
