The DejaVu font family is derived from the Bitstream Vera font family under
a BSD-like free license, with additional "Arev" glyphs also under a BSD-
like free license. The terms are here:

I am not a lawyer, but I would feel comfortable using fonts under these
licenses with attribution and without permission. I did so with my own Toga
font family, itself based on Bitstream Vera, and in eight years I've never
had a problem or even a question.
