I meet with Jim Lyles today.

He says for verious reasons when Prima was designed (Vera's progenitor),
they added extra leading, so your observations that line spacing is unusually
large is correct.

Jim said he'd probably pull some (but possibly not all) of this extra
spacing back out in Vera.  The font itself is a bit higher in places,
so he probably won't make it as tightly spaced as some fonts you've seen,
but probably tighter than it is now.
